Many of you will recognize Diervilla by its common name, honeysuckle, which can grow to be very large. There have been some new introductions in the past few years that take the great features of honeysuckle and put it into a much more compact package. The Kodiak series of honeysuckle are perfectly sized for residential landscapes at 3-5’ high and wide. They tolerate sun and shade, they’re deer resistant, have amazing yellow blooms in early summer, great foliage, and incredible fall color. Because they stay compact, they require little to no pruning, and they’re a native plant to boot! Our personal favorites are Kodiak Black Diervilla, with a deep dark purple to green foliage, and Kodiak Orange Diervilla, that has a fantastic orange to green foliage and intense fall color.
